Responsible Management Evaluation in a Changing Era

The environment surrounding corporations, public institutions, and other organizations is changing rapidly.

Advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technologies are transforming the structures of industry and society. Climate and environmental challenges, changes in global supply chains, cyber risks, growing expectations concerning human rights and ethics, and increasing attention to public value and social value are also presenting organizations with new challenges in decision-making and operations.

The perspective on organizational competitiveness and sustainability is also changing. Current performance alone is becoming increasingly insufficient to explain an organization’s long-term competitiveness and sustainability. How organizations respond to change, manage emerging risks, and create long-term value is becoming increasingly important.

Responsible Management evaluation should also be understood within this changing environment.

The decisions and activities of an organization do not affect only the organization itself. Corporate activities may affect shareholders and investors, consumers, employees, business partners, and local communities, while the policies and activities of public institutions may have broad impacts on citizens, users, beneficiaries, and communities.

Decisions made today concerning the environment, resources, technology, investment, policy, and management may extend beyond present outcomes to affect the future environment and society, as well as the conditions and opportunities available to future generations.

Accordingly, understanding and evaluating Responsible Management requires consideration not only of the outcomes an organization creates, but also of the impacts generated in the process and how the organization fulfills responsibilities arising from those impacts.

From this perspective, Responsible Management does not refer merely to a particular management activity or an individual policy. It encompasses a continuing process through which organizations recognize their roles and impacts and fulfill the resulting responsibilities throughout their policies, systems, decision-making, and operations.

Technological innovation, particularly AI and digital transformation, is expanding opportunities for growth and value creation while simultaneously raising new questions of responsibility involving data and privacy, digital ethics, cyber risks, and accountability for automated decision-making.

Responsible Management evaluation therefore needs to extend beyond current conditions and consider how organizations respond to emerging opportunities and risks and create sustainable value in a changing environment.

(WORLD FEDERATION OF POWER LEADERS, WFPL)이 장기간의 연구개발을 통해 확립한 책임경영 평가 연구성과이다.

The WF Sustainable Responsibility Index (WFSRI) is the outcome of long-term research and development by the WORLD FEDERATION OF POWER LEADERS (WFPL) in the field of Responsible Management evaluation.

Building on these research outcomes, SEC (Sustainable Enterprise Evaluation Commission) establishes and operates the SEC Evaluation Methodology and SEC Evaluation Framework to objectively and systematically evaluate the Responsible Management of corporations, public institutions, and other organizations.

Starting from this recognition, this White Paper progressively examines the philosophy and perspectives through which Responsible Management is understood and evaluated, how those foundations are translated into an evaluation structure and Indicator System, and how evaluation results are integrated and utilized. Through this progression, the White Paper seeks to provide a coherent understanding of how the philosophical foundations of Responsible Management are connected to practical evaluation structures and outcomes.
